11am smoko break- the local SPAR (Dutch-born equivalent of 7-11) was fresh out of steak ‘n bacon pies, so on impulse and w/ hungry desperation, I turned to the confectionary aisle; which I’ve generally avoided in the past on account of my never having much of a 'sweet tooth' with regard to junk-food. Convenient placement and a "special introductory price" led me straight to a Snickers ‘Loaded’ bar, which I flipped a couple coins on the counter to be collected by the friendly Indian guy on-shift (he was out back at the time, cig'rit hanging from his hair lip and hunched over the paper) for. As far as I can tell, the difference between a regular Snickers and the loaded variant is that the peanut quotient has been upped to the nth degree. What results is a generous nut-to-choc ratio similar to that of
Ferrero Rocher, with which it also shares a kind of choc/ nut “layout”, in its use of many roasted fragmented peanuts lightly coated in a layer of milk chocolate. It also has the delicate, light texture of F.R, which is refreshing in an age of
dense cadbury slabs and “kingsize” portions. Just as with the regular ed, LOADED contains a hint of caramel that doesn’t overwhelm like MARS’ patented sludgy sugar-goo overkill. As far as candy is concerned, there’s nothing less appealing than a brittle shell of chocolate what’s been packed to the brim with a sickly ooze fer filling. Nu'uh.. The caramel/nut combo were complimented by a solid layer of fudge-like nougat, givin' one (literally) somethin' to chew on. A couple bites and it’s evident that this’s a fuckin’ G.O.O.D. (G' oo' oo' d) piece of candy. So whiles I’ve never been the biggest advocate of packaged candy eats, in Snickers newest offering I’ve found one which I’d not hesitate to consume with regularity, having scoffed down three in the last week alone. The Mr. T advertisement campaign (“GET SOME NUTS!”) is tired and ineffective, much like the man 'imself, but does not reduce the pleasure one receives from this bar in terms of sheer taste. LOADED is a product still new to the bloated confectionary market; I urge all readers to hound for these treats w/ frequency, lest the product go into recession.
